Restaurant mother is known for its trademark sourdough pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven. mother opened its doors as one of the first restaurants in the Meatpacking District in Copenhagen in 2010. The restaurant has grown immensely popular both locally as well as outside of the Danish borders for its approachable, organic quality food imported directly from Italy or made in Copenhagen from organic produce. In September 2016 mother Restaurant took its “good food for the people” and “back to nature” philosophy a step further by introducing a new, even healthier and tastier way of making pizza dough using purified seawater instead of traditional salt and water.
mother opened its second restaurant in July 2017 at the iconic Battersea Power Station in London, which has been re-designed by the legendary architect Frank Gehry and Norman Foster.
The Food
mother is an utterly Italian restaurant without all the nonsense. mother’s menu aims to bring out really good simple soul food. We combine the best seasonal ingredients with artisan products imported directly from Italy. We're really proud of our wood fire oven that provides us with our daily bread, sourdough pizza and roasted fish, meat, and vegetables. People say that Italian food is all about an ingenious use of really good ingredients, and we try to keep to that sentiment.
mother's Cocktail Menu is short and precise. It is based primarily on classic Italian spirits including Vermouth, Frangelico and Amaretto. Whereas our first mother beer was brewed in Bornholm, our latest three new beers, respectively an IPA, a Pilsner and a Classic are based on our wild sourdough yeast – the same that gives mother pizzas their characteristic sourdough tang – developed together with niche brewery CoolLab in Munkebo in Fyn and led by renowned Brewer & Owner, Claus Christensen.
mother has its best seller high quality house wines namely: mother Red & mother white, that is produced in Puglia, Italy. The aim is to offer genuine quality wines at a sensible price point by working directly with selected producers and indigenous grape varieties, all of which you can find on our wine card.
