A fleshy fella who means serious business. Dark and deep in colour, intense nose of black fruit, peppercorn, liquorice and old smoke. Tannins are finely textured and not at all rough. This is a powerful wine, yet part of the power is in the restraint of the winemaker not to go all in. We love the Magliano wines for their purity and uncompromising style – they are not making wine just to please the crowd.
Beef is the obvious choice. whether a well aged grilled fiorentina steak or a slow cooked daube, but also boleti mist with its myriad flavours and textures, served with piercing salsa verde.
It will absolutely stand up well to dark game; venison, wild duck & hare.
This syrah has been aged 14-18 months in toasted, new barriques.
